For immediate release: September 12, 2024

PHOENIX — In our ongoing efforts to support mental health and prevent suicide across Arizona, we are excited to share a new 988 promotional video featuring Joshua Stegemeyer, ADHS Suicide Prevention Program Manager. This video aims to shed light on the vital services provided by the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and to explain some of the services available during times of crisis.

Arizonans can call or text “9-8-8” if they are experiencing mental health crisis or suicidal thoughts. Launched in July 2022, this three-digit dialing code connects callers to trained crisis counselors who offer compassionate support, practical advice, and necessary resources. Available 24/7, 988 ensures that help is just a call away for anyone in need, at no cost to the individual. 988 services can also be reached by chat at https://988lifeline.org/chat/

“We invite you to watch our video and share it widely to spread awareness about the critical services offered by 988. By promoting this lifeline, we can ensure that more individuals in Arizona know that there is never a wrong door or a wrong time to ask for help – no matter the time of day or night, someone is waiting to support you,” said Celia Nabor, ADHS Assistant Director for Prevention Services.

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is designed to serve a wide range of populations, recognizing that mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or background. Specific services and support are tailored to meet the needs of veterans and military personnel, youth and adolescents, rural and underserved communities, LGBTQ+ Arizonans, and many more.

“Whichever route you choose, 988’s full suite of services are available. 988 doesn’t just support suicide crisis – a person can reach out for any reason and have someone listen,” said Joshua Stegemeyer.
